Dear Friends in Christ,
Recently, a friend took me to a baseball game at Fenway Park. It was a beautiful evening and the air was pleasant and cool. We had seats high up in the stadium. They afforded us a beautiful view of the area. I was admiring this view when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw something moving in the sky. My friend noted “Look, a dove!” I turned to look at this bird flying in an out of my range of vision. Seeing it was a reminder of God’s presence. As many people gathered that evening for the sporting event, God was with us, gently letting us know He was there.
Sometimes the subtle presence of God moves in and out of our range of vision. We are often distracted, pulled in many different directions as our lives move at a frenetic pace. Yet, God is very much part of our experience. Through regular, prayerful reflection on our lives and through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can see how God has been at work in us and in our experience. God wants to let us know He is there and loves us with an eternal love.
One of the ways we learn about God’s love for us is through our study of Scripture. Beginning Wednesday, September 14 at 7 PM in the church, we will be offering weekly Scripture study for parishioners and Catholics of other parishes. During this study, we will reflect upon the gospel reading for the coming Sunday and prepare to hear this gospel through teaching and faith-sharing. Our weekly time of study will conclude with participants sharing petitions with the group. I would encourage you to try out this new adult education opportunity in our parish.
May we pray for and enjoy the great grace of catching a glimpse of God’s work in our lives this week.
