CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD
for our Littlest Disciples
Originated in 1954 in Italy by Sofia Cavalletti, a biblical scholar, and Gianna Gobi, an educator, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a model of religious education that helps the young child to enter into a personal, intimate relationship with Jesus. It seeks to create a sacred space for children called the Atrium, in which both the children and their catechists can hear, ponder, and celebrate the most essential mysteries of our Catholic faith as revealed in the Scriptures and the Liturgy. This leads little children, and quite often their entire families, to come to a deep appreciation for the sacraments, and above all,
the Eucharist.
We piloted the program here in our parish last year with a small number of children, and hope to expand it this year. We have set up our Atrium in what was the religious ed office at the parish center. We invite you to stop by to see it should you be in the parish center, and we encourage you to join us in this endeavor by volunteering your time or talent as we continue to create our Atrium. Please keep us in your prayers as we work to bring about this beautiful atmosphere for the youngest members of our parish.
