Oil of the Sick This Oil of the Sick has been blessed by our Bishop for the healing of body, mind, and soul. May the sick, who are anointed with it, experience the compassion of Christ and his saving love.
Oil of Catechumens This Oil of Catechumens has been blessed by our Bishop for the anointing of those preparing for Baptism. Through this anointing they are strengthened by Christ to resist the power of Satan and reject evil in all its forms, as they prepare for the saving waters of Baptism.
Holy Chrism This Holy Chrism, a mixture of olive oil and perfume, has been consecrated by our Bishop and the Priests of our Diocese. It will be used to anoint infants after Baptism, those who are to be confirmed, Bishops and Priests at their Ordination, and altars and churches at the time of their dedication.
As part of our parish celebration this weekend of the Most Holy Trinity, we receive into their place of honor the Holy Oils that were blessed by Bishop McManus during Holy Week. Conveyed to us later than usual due to the prevailing public health crisis, we receive them now and commit ourselves as a parish to the ministries they represent, and the ministries for which they equip and empower us.
Though essentially used by my hands as your pastor, they are used in the name of the Church, in your name as the People of God of Saint Peter Parish. And it is through our common priesthood in Christ that these ministries are undertaken in the name of the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We proclaim and claim lives for Christ, we heal wounds and proclaim life even in the face of death, with and for Christ. We praise you, O God, and we welcome these sacramental signs of your power and grace!
