The Word of God this term so readily points in our minds to texts and recognized books of Sacred Scripture. It is the favored version of the Bible that we keep on our bed stands, in our prayer corner, even in our backpacks. It is the mysterious and faithfully true Word from God’s trusted stewards to our eyes or our ears. During the season of Lent which begins this week on Ash Wednesday, I will be offering an evening of prayer and reflection each Wednesday, beginning on March 4 at 7:00pm in St. Peter’s Church. The heart of these reflections will be the Mystery that God’s Word has become flesh for us, and that the Word made flesh has truly dwelt among us. The focus for these reflections will be “The Seven Last Words,” a familiar and engaging tradition that considers the powerful and compelling words of Christ spoken during the final hours of his life. If you ever have spent time at the bedside of someone you love as their life has ebbed away, you know how powerful that experience can be, and how some simple, spoken word in that moment can become a treasure for a lifetime. Here is our treasure in faith!
Newly Baptized From a quite different angle, I want to congratulate a Luna Suarez, and to congratulate her family and friends who gathered here at St. Peter’s last Sunday afternoon to celebrate her Baptism. Since the majority of those gathered speak Spanish, and many who had journeyed from Colombia speak only Spanish, I put the newest edition of the Ritual for Baptism which is bi-ritual and approved for use only since February 2 to good use. It was an experience of Church well worth the effort! Muy bienvenida, Luna!!! Fr. Tom
