As I sit at the keyboard this morning, I do not know yet the experience and outcome of our first Trivia night this Friday evening at the Knights of Columbus. But knowing of the diligence in planning, the efforts made to gather us for fun and friendly competition, I want to thank everyone who did the work and everyone who included this parish event and fundraiser in your schedule!
This weekend we celebrate the Fifth Sunday of Easter. We hear Our Lord preparing his disciples soon to be upon them … a time when he knows that they will be shaken, but a time in which they must understand that he will be glorified. What is coming will not be a mistake, nor a defeat. The true glory that is his, not the world’s version of glory, will be revealed. That glory will be known not in power to rule over others but in love to serve others. We hear that to love is more important than to be right, that to love is more important than to be safe, that to love is more important than to know the fleeting comforts of this world.
When this occurs, in our church, in the Knights of Columbus Hall, in our homes, the light of Christ’s truth, which shines within us and from us, gleams with the splendor of God (Rev 21:11).
A moment of such light will occur this Thursday evening in the Cathedral of St. Paul when our Conformation candidates will be presented to Bishop McManus. I thank everyone who has shared this journey with them, and I pray for and with them as they confirm their commitment to Christ, and we as Church confirm our and God’s commitment to them.
